On Thursday 9th July the Government announced the launch of The Recovery Advice for Business Scheme, as a reaction to the economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. This scheme gives small firms, from any sector, access to free, one-to-one advice, with an expert adviser to help them through the coronavirus pandemic and to prepare for long-term recovery. The service is planned to finish at the end of December 2020, so it is imperative that people take advantage sooner rather than later!
This is fantastic news for the wider small business community. Any scheme which provides support and guidance to those small businesses who are understandably feeling a huge amount of pressure in these testing times, can only be a positive thing.
Now here is some even better news. X-Forces Enterprise already offers the Armed Forces Business Community its own specialist ‘Recovery Advice for Business’ Scheme, not just for COVID but to help business owners throughout their enterprise journey. Last month we announced our partnership with both the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and NatWest just as we launched our Knowledge Exchange Hub® . This new business platform has been carefully designed to help the Armed Forces Business Community access business information, free events and a peer-to-peer support network. The hub provides the community with guidance from specialist advisers or Business Captains, often veteran themselves, who are experts in a specific business area.
Our partnership with FSB and NatWest is further boosted by our Big Business Supporting Small Business steering group, made up of Cisco, Landmarc Solutions, GKN Aerospace, Roll Royce, Facebook, Sage, Capita and London Stock Exchange, all of whom have Armed Forces schemes and employ a large number of veterans.
At XFE, once we have ‘helped’ a business start-up we don’t just wish them well on their way, we check in with them and are on hand for support and advice should they need it; the hub is one of the ways we can support this cohort – you can’t get rid of us that easily!
Very much like the Armed Forces Community, business is built on shared experience, quick thinking, adaptability, community, building close networks and important long-term relationships. Since 2013 we have helped set up over 2,000 businesses run by veterans and their families and have seen this community grow exponentially. It was heartening to see that the Government recognises that the community supporting SME businesses, as a part of the sustainability model, has a part to play in getting us through COVID-19.
Many say that you never leave the Armed Forces Community. At XFE we nurture this unique way of life and act as a continuation of that community and sense of belonging. Our hub is a resource curated by the community, for the community.
