I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to record a very special interview with the extraordinary man and life-long entrepreneur, the Rt Hon Lord Young; XFE Patron and someone I am privileged to call a mentor and friend.
Lord Young’s personal story and passion for enterprise for youth and community groups, spanning 40 years, including the role he played in Margaret Thatcher’s government to reignite the enterprise economy, is incredibly insightful – and full of Lord Young’s trademark understated wisdom.
Taking the discussion right back to XFE’s founding principles; why we are different, and what brought us together in the first place; Lord Young touches on the importance of the wrap-around support that is the hallmark of the XFE model. This support is available to all XFE beneficiaries including those who take out a micro-finance loan through the Government’s Start Up Loan scheme; the scheme Lord Young pioneered in 2012 – and the reason we first met. When you combine the XFE wrap-around of support and the skills and aptitude of the Armed Forces community, no wonder the XFE micro-financing success rate is circa 90%.
This micro finance success rate is good news all round as British Business Bank figures state that for every £1 invested, £5 is returned to the UK economy!
This takes me to a new initiative launched today. In response to popular demand to understand more about the XFE model we have created some assets that provide answers about what we do. These “Quickfire Q&A’s” are the first in what will become a quarterly update on a number of different topics related to supporting the community.
